Woman robbed at gunpoint at east side gas station

A 27-year-old Madison woman allegedly was robbed at gunpoint after she bought gas at a station on the city's east side Thursday night.

The armed robbery happened at about 11 p.m. Thursday in the 3800 block of East Washington Avenue, the Madison Police Department reported.

According to police, the woman was just starting to pull away from the gas pumps after buying gas when two men told her to stop the car.

"She said the robbers opened her car doors, and one of the suspects pistol-whipped her," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. "She said she was pulled out of the car while one of the suspects went through her purse."

A credit card and her driver's license were taken from her purse, police said. She was not injured.

No description of the suspects was given.
