Police plead for clues to catch KFC gunmen

Ballarat police say they need public help to catch two men who robbed a fast-food restaurant yesterday morning.

It is believed the pair, who were wearing balaclavas, had been monitoring the KFC on Sturt Street to find out what time the morning manager arrived.

Detective Sergeant Steve Howard says they used a sawn-off firearm to force the manager to open a safe at the back of the store before they tied him to a desk and fled with cash.

He says police have only a vague description of the robbers.

"No-one's come forward with anything at the moment but we do hope that that does happen in the near future," he said.

"We have viewed CCTV [closed-circuit TV] footage but it doesn't take the matter any further.

"The scene has been examined by our crime scene officers."
