Police appeal over bank robbery

Police have appealed for witnesses after a bank robbery in Bradford.

The incident happened on Tuesday morning at the Yorkshire Bank on Queensbury High Street.

Police were called at 10.12am to reports that two men wearing face masks had entered the premises with a sledge hammer and a crow bar.

A panic alarm was activated and members of staff inside the bank were able to take refuge in an office.

The men then made off on foot and entered a black BMW which was later recovered burnt out on Chapel Lane, Queensbury. No one was hurt during the incident.

Detective Inspector Ian Bryar, who is leading the investigation, said: "From our initial enquiries we believe that the men who entered the bank were white and spoke with a Yorkshire accent. They had taken great care to conceal their identity and were wearing distinctive Ronald Reagan masks.

"I would call on any local retailers who may have recently sold masks of this type to come forward as they may be able to help in our enquiries.

"It is quite probable that there was a third man who stayed in the BMW and that may have been the driver. The incident happened in broad daylight, at a time when there were a number of people in the area. I am therefore keen to hear from anyone who may have seen these men to contact us with any information they have.

"It is highly possible that some pre-planning had gone into this and I would also ask that if you have seen anything suspicious at the bank prior to the incident, to get in touch immediately."

Anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or has any information is asked to contact Bradford South CID via 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
