Man stabbed in Sunderland robbery

ROBBERS stabbed a man before making off with his bag in a vicious attack.

Police are today hunting the thugs who left their victim in hospital after the confrontation in a back lane.

The 32-year-old man had been walking along the lane behind Guildford Street, in Hendon, when he was jumped on by his attackers.

A scuffle followed and the victim was left bleeding in the street after suffering a number of stab wounds to his leg. Police say the men made off with a bag.

The victim was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital after the assault, which happened at about 5.30pm on Sunday. He received treatment and has since been released.

Police who cover the Hendon area are now appealing for help in tracing the attackers.

Neighbourhood Inspector John Connolly, of Northumbria Police, said: “I’d urge anyone who was in the area and may have seen anything, or who knows who is responsible to contact us.

“Extra police will be on patrol in the area to reassure residents and answer any concerns they may have.”

Anyone with any information should contact Northumbria Police on 03456 043043 ext 69191 and ask for Hendon CID, or the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
