Burger bandit, where's the pattern?

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Three Jack in the Box's have been hit. So have three Del Taco's. And one Burger King, located near the Sacramento Police headquarters, has been hit twice.

Sacramento law enforcement authorities said Monday that a robber dubbed the Burger Bandit has hit at least 10 fast-food restaurants in the past two weeks. The pace accelerated on Sunday, when 5 robberies occurred.

Workers in the restaurants have reported 'striking similar' descriptions of the robber and his method, said Sacramento sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos.

The Sheriff's Department and the Saramento Police department said in each case the robber has shown a weapon, but that, so far, no one has been hurt.

The first 8 robberies took place during the breakfast hours, before 8:30 a.m. The two most recent ones occurred Sunday night, just an hour apart.

"I have absolutely no comment," said Michael Godlove when reached by phone Monday afternoon. County records list Godlove as the permit holder for the McDonald's at 8901 Folsom Boulevard, which was robbed Sunday night at 10:15 p.m.

Despite the robberies, two security companies, Securitas and Bayer Protective Services, said Monday that they have received no requests for additional guards at any of their Sacramento-area restaurants.

University of California, Davis Police reported a possible sighting of a man matching the description of the suspect Monday morning at about 8 a.m., according to Sacramento police.

Officers responded to the area of 48th and V Streets but were unable to locate anyone.

"By the time we arrived, the person was long gone, but that is what we want. We want people to call in with information," said Sacramento police spokeswoman Laura Peck.

Witnesses said the bandit was brandishing a gun while wearing a mask.

"We believe he has a car in the area of each robbery. He is not on foot. We don't know if he has an accomplice," said Sacramento police spokesman Eric Poerio.

It is not clear how much money the man has amassed in these robberies. Investigators confirmed that in one of them, the man stole nearly $400. However, they said, in another attempted robbery, he was apparently spooked off by the arrival of a customer and left with nothing.
