Accused pleads guilty to gunpoint club robbery

One of two men accused of stealing more than $100,000 from Canberra's Weston Creek Labor Club has pleaded guilty in the ACT Supreme Court.

Matthew Turner, 24, and Adam John Street, 34, were arrested with a third man over the incident in February 2008, in which $124,000 was stolen by two masked men wielding a gun and a baseball bat.

Turner was one of those men and today he surprised the court by entering pleas of guilty to charges of stealing the money, using force against two club employees, and dealing in the proceeds of crime.

Street is maintaining his plea of not guilty.

The trial has been told Street was working as a security guard at the club, and planned the robbery with his co-accused.

His trial will continue next week.
