FBI: 4 men attempt bank robbery in Alsip

Four men attempted to rob an Alsip bank this morning but fled empty-handed after they believed police had been notified, FBI officials said.

The attempted bank robbery happened at 9:50 a.m. at the Charter One Bank branch, 12004 South Pulaski Road, according to FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde.

Witnesses told officials that four men were involved in the attempt. Two of the men were waiting in the customer line when two others entered the bank, Hyde said.

The four men announced the robbery to customers and bank employees, Hyde said. One of the men then jumped over the teller counter to get cash, Hyde said.

But after the men believed that police had been called they decided to flee the bank, Hyde said. The men fled without any money, Hyde said.

No weapons were displayed and no one was injured in today's incident, Hyde said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Chicago office of the FBI at (312)421-6700 or Alsip police.
